After weeks of digging down into the ground, construction of the Ash Skyline Plaza is finally going up! Work on the city-owned parking garage, which will be the base of the project, is currently underway, and work on the Ash Brokerage headquarters is projected to begin in April 2015.
Crews have removed more than 52,000 cubic yards of dirt from the site with an average of 300 loads removed daily. Now, 145 40-foot tall “I” beams are being installed as part of the earth retention system.
Leaders say the project is full steam ahead, despite last week’s announcement that Hanning & Bean would discontinue its involvement. Several developers have already stepped forward with interest in the project, and officials are confident a residential component will still be a part of this collaborative effort to live, work and play in downtown Fort Wayne.
Last week also marked a milestone for Weigand Construction, Ash Brokerage, the Indiana Department of Labor and the City of Fort Wayne. A partnership-signing ceremony was held at the site to mark all parties’ commitment to workers’ health and safety.
